Micheal Poncelet was born in Akeley, Minnesota on the bi-centennial of the United States. He attended high school at Walker-Hackensack-Akeley where he graduated in 1994. Extending his learning and life experience, Micheal went on to the University of Minnesota Duluth where he graduated with a degree in Political Science and Coaching. After graduation and unsure of what to do next, Micheal moved to Colorado where he worked for the Boulder Polo Club and got engaged to wife Shawna. Micheal and Shawna moved to the Twin Cities where Micheal was accepted to law school at Hamline University. Micheal worked as an attorney, prosecuting criminal cases in Sherburne County, and eventually opened a private practice. During this period, he found his two true passions: coaching basketball and writing. Micheal was a successful high school coach, being named mid-state conference coach of the year in 2016, before moving on to coach college basketball at Macalester College where he currently works on the Women’s basketball staff. Micheal’s first novel Wrongful Convictions was released on July 22nd 2019. Micheal and Shawna have two sons: Marquise and Vincent and split time between their home in St. Anthony and their boat on Leech Lake.
